I've often wondered about BOOKMARKS magazine but haven't picked up it so I was glad to hear you mention it. Worth buying or better to read at the library? (I am a magazine lover as well as a book lover!)
In spite of the spoiler alert, enjoyed the review of the UNCOMMON READER. never heard of it, but like the sound of it.

Oh, I enjoy Bookmarks and have a subscription. Both my husband and I go through it and mark the books that sound good. It is an interesting format because each review includes snippets from published reviews as well as the magazine's comments. Also the web site links to the full length reviews. In addition to lots of book reviews they have articles on specific authors and genres. It is the best magazine of its kind that I have found since Book Magazine went out of business. I have heard good things about newbooks magazine but since I don't live in the UK it is very expensive.
I read Girl Who Played with Fire althought didn't read the first book, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, first, as Bookmarks suggested! It was okay, though, as you can get the gist of what happened in the first book.
